A warrior race of humanoid felines which, though lethal almost to the point of savagery, is not uncivilized. Rakshasa society is divided into tribes ruled by a chieftain; blood-debt is the only loyalty higher than that of the warrior to the tribe.

The Rakshasa anatomy differs from human in a less obvious sense: the orientation of Rakshasa hands is reversed with respect to human hands, so that the thumbs point outward rather than inward.

In Book 1, the heroes periodically encounter a warrior who has gone missing from the Erielipan tribe.
