Kobolds are small, vaguely reptilian humanoids with an abiding hatred of gnomes. They move in packs and have indigo-colored blood.

In Book 2, Peshkar is surrounded by a pack of especially paranoid kobolds shortly after he ventures into the swamp outside Canopy. They flee after Daenes appears and easily bisects a few of them.

Book 4 documents an instance of kobolds who serve a dragon, but more from a desire to be led than from loyalty to the leader. Upon the dragon's defeat by Moses and Plunk, the kobolds' loyalty shifts completely to them, even to the point of shedding blood for their cause.
