In tough situations, Hildy's easy camaraderie deepens into an unwavering commitment to leave none of her fellow crew behind, further counterpointing Josia's focused, chilly leadership.

In Book 5, Hildy arrives at Solospray, coveting the crystal hawk statue of Solanna, and quickly becomes caught up in Claudette's mission to save Isabella, seemingly more out of a desire for companionship, a crew of her own, than regard for any moral principle.
