Elves (of whom Priestess Chee'naia is one) who treasure and cultivate a personal relationship with death, blood, and darkness. Death elves are unpleasant even by the generally unsavory standards of cults, though Plunk begins his adventure with a jejunely accepting attitude toward them.

Their faces are painted and their arms striped with blood, or something like it. Heavily lined eyes and various gauges of plug and stud earrings complete the look.

In their first appearance in Book 4, they save Plunk and Moses from a Bunnywurm. The Death Elves live among Bunnywurms as a mountain man might live among bobcats; useful for keeping prowlers at bay, dangerous enough to require the elves to travel armed. When threatened by Bunnywurms, they prefer to tranquilize rather than slay them.
